Coronation of Mary Framed Transfiguration Canvas by Velasquez

This 16x20 canvas print, mounted on real wood stretchers comes in a beautiful baroque frame, (fitting for the period).
The original, which now hangs in the Museo del Prado in Madrid was created between 1641 and 1644, but is unlike other painting of the period in its simplicity. The form is based on an inverted triangle reminiscent of a heart. The central figure of the Virgin is in a humble poise while being crowned the Queen of Heaven by the Father and the Son with the Dove of the Holy Spirit above her head. The sense that the inverted triangle is meant to refer to a heart is reinforced and the viewer's piety invoked by Mary pointing to her own heart.

Digitally reproduced canvas print from the Transfiguration Collection.
